Gianni Gregory Panno
Hello! I am Gianni, a second-year graduate student. I got my undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering at Northeastern University where I also competed on the club teams for swimming, running, and triathlon. The ability to encounter a new puzzle every time you approach a fresh design and have many possible solutions keeps me excited for all the work I do in the structural engineering field.
In the professional world, I made the most of the opportunities that Northeastern provided and completed three co-ops (6-month terms) during my undergraduate years. Through the experiences at Consigli Construction, L.A. Fuess Partners, and LeMessurier Consultants, I was exposed to the new design side of the field as well as the retrofitting existing structures. I had the pleasure of returning to LeMessurier Consultants this recent summer as part of the new design project team.
I had the opportunity to collaborate with other major Eastern Coastal colleges, such as Princeton and Boston University, in the development of buildings for new quantum computing labs and classrooms. The range of projects I worked with deepened my appreciation for how creative and dynamic structural design can be, motivating me to continue pushing my skills toward more complex and meaningful projects in the future.
With parents who were cyclists and swimmers, I gravitated towards any and all endurance sports. I competed on the club team of the men's swimming at Northeastern and joined the Triathlon team during my junior year. At Stanford, I practice with the Master's Swimming group and search for nearby races to keep small milestones constant. With a personal goal to beat my own father's time, I have begun training for an Ironman next summer. Outside of these, I participate in the intramurals on campus with my fellow SEM students.
The first year at Stanford has allowed me to grow so much and learn vast amounts from both my professors and my peers around me. I am so grateful for the time I have spent here and look forward to much more to come!
